Shiretokogo Lake
Shiretoko Goko (Shiretoko Five Lakes) is a scenic lake area in Shari Town, Hokkaido, known as a "hidden lake" spot and one of the Shiretoko Eight Views. As snow melts, the visible number of lakes can appear to increase. The area consists of five named lakes (from Lake 1 to Lake 5). Around Lake 1, there are walking paths and viewpoints where you can admire the Shiretoko mountain range reflected on the water’s surface—one of the signature views of the area. Because it offers an immersive nature experience, it is enjoyed by visitors of all ages. There are two main routes: an elevated wooden walkway (about 800 meters) that leads to the shore of Lake 1 via a sturdy path, and ground-level trails that allow you to walk around all five lakes while observing plants and wildlife. The ground-level trails offer two course lengths (about 3 km and 1.6 km). Before entering the ground trails, visitors must attend a short lecture (Adults 250 yen / Children 100 yen). Lectures are held about every 10 minutes, so waits are usually minimal. Access is about a 20-minute drive from Utoro in Shari Town, or by bus from JR Senmō Main Line Shiretoko-Shari Station.
