Takaragawa onsen

Takaragawa Onsen is a small hot spring area in Minakami Town, Gunma Prefecture, where you can enjoy hot springs either staying overnight or on a day trip. Alongside untouched nature and the flow of the Takaragawa River, there are four large riverside open-air baths totaling 470 tatami mats in area. The first is Maka-no-Yu, the most famous bath at Takaragawa Onsen, with a huge size of about 120 tatami mats. It has been used as a filming location and featured in many magazines and TV programs, so many people may recognize it. In autumn, the surrounding area turns brilliantly red with foliage, and in winter the snowy scenery is also stunning—healing not only through bathing but also through the view. The second, Kodakara-no-Yu, is extremely large at about 200 tatami mats. The third, Hannya-no-Yu, is half shallow, making it safer for children. The fourth, Maya-no-Yu, is a women-only open-air bath with an open, 100-tatami-mat area. It is a mixed-bathing hot spring overall, but bathing is done wearing dedicated yuami garments, so you can bathe with peace of mind.
