Gifu-Kakamigahara Air and Space Museum
Gifu Kakamigahara Aerospace Museum is one of Japan’s leading aerospace specialty museums and the country’s only full-scale museum dedicated to both aviation and space. It showcases the history of humanity’s longing for space and the challenges undertaken by pioneers. The museum features two large aviation zones and a space zone, along with special exhibitions and events. In the aviation areas, you can learn about aircraft, the aviation industry, and prewar/postwar aircraft development, and you can also experience how planes fly through simulators. In the space zone, you can learn about Japan’s rocket development and technological history, the mechanisms and roles of artificial satellites, and the use of unmanned probes. With spot guides and guided tours led by curators, even visitors without prior knowledge can fully enjoy the exhibits. Workshops such as paper-airplane classes and robot classes are also held, offering learning experiences for both children and adults. The on-site “Sora-Haku Café” serves many original menu items, including “space starry-sky curry” and “fluffy cloud soda jelly.”
