Yonaha Maehama Beach
Yonaha Maehama Beach is a beach in Okinawa, often described as “the most beautiful in the East” and as one of Japan’s best beaches. Located at the southwest edge of Miyako Island, it features white sand and crystal-clear sea stretching about 7 km. It’s a must-stop for almost everyone visiting Miyako Island. The silky white sand feels great barefoot, and the contrast between the transparent sea and the sky is said to be among the best in Japan. Marine activities are also well developed, with many casual options you can try easily. The bridge visible from the beach connects Miyako Island and Kurima Island; it’s a spectacular viewpoint because you drive over the sea with ocean on both sides, but you cannot park on the bridge. Both daytime and evening are stunning, and around sunset it gets crowded with many visitors. It is also the starting point of the All Japan Triathlon Miyakojima held every spring. Access is about a 10-minute drive from Miyako Airport, and there are plenty of free parking spaces.
