Yamakawa Sand Musi Onsen Sand Yuri

Yamakawa Sunamushi Onsen Sunayuri is a sand-steaming hot spring facility on Fushime Beach in Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture. You dig a hole in the sand warmed by seawater salt and hot-spring minerals, lie down, and have sand placed over you to create a sauna-like experience. Because it’s right in front of the sea, you can listen to the waves while you soak. After the sand bath, you can further relax by bathing in the Fushime Onsen baths. The weight of the sand helps you sweat out waste products, so by the time you leave you may feel refreshed in both body and mind. Since sand is poured over your whole body, you need a towel to keep sand away from your face; you can bring one or purchase one there. The Healthyland complex where Sunayuri is located also includes a hot-spring health center, heated pool, and restaurant, making it a sightseeing course where you can enjoy sand baths and many hot springs for a full day of onsen indulgence. Access: from JR Yamakawa Station, take a bus and get off at “Healthyland Iriguchi,” then walk about 15 minutes.
