Akita Hinai Chicken Restaurant

Akita Hinai Jidori YAH is a restaurant on the 3rd floor of Topico, the station complex attached to Akita Station, specializing in Hinai-jidori oyakodon (chicken-and-egg rice bowl). Access is excellent—just a 1-minute walk from JR Akita Station. As the name suggests, the menu focuses on dishes made with premium Hinai-jidori chicken. The signature dish is the "Ultimate Hinai-jidori Oyakodon," made with top-quality Hinai-jidori meat and eggs produced in villages at the foot of the Ou Mountains, surrounded by the green corridor linking the UNESCO World Heritage Shirakami Sanchi and the national park of Lake Towada. The chicken is fragrantly grilled over binchotan charcoal, the egg is softly set, and everything is finished with a secret sauce—truly outstanding. Another recommendation is the "Grilled Hinai-jidori Thigh (one full piece)," faithfully recreated by the head chef as the taste featured in the popular manga "Oishinbo." Also popular is the "Tazawako Cold Noodles," which adds the chewy, slippery texture of reimen with the popping bite of tonburi and the springy firmness of Hinai-jidori, finished with a wasabi flavor. It can also be ordered as a set with oyakodon. Meals are served in traditional Akita "magewappa" bentwood containers, adding a distinctly local atmosphere—and the containers are also sold in the shop.
