Izanro Iwasaki

Izanro Iwasaki is the oldest and most historic ryokan in Misasa Onsen, opened in 1920 (Taisho 9) and now with over 100 years of history. It has been loved by many famous figures, including writers and notable guests; it is known as the place where Shimazaki Toson and Tayama Katai met, and it has hosted Yosano Tekkan and Akiko, Saito Mokichi, and even Emperor Showa and the Empress. The ryokan’s pride in this legacy can be seen in its in-house “Gallery Iwasaki.” Its grand bath features one of the world’s notable radium hot springs, containing high concentrations of radon, which is associated with improved metabolism and immune support. You can enjoy the onsen in 12 different styles. Along with its history and hot springs, the cuisine is also highly praised, and you can savor the warm hospitality unique to Izanro Iwasaki. Access: by car, from Innosho IC (Chugoku Expressway) via Route 179. By train, get off at JR San’in Main Line “Kurayoshi Station,” with a free shuttle bus available (reservation required by the day before). There are also highway buses to Kurayoshi Station from Osaka (about 3.5–4 hours), and a limousine bus from Tottori Airport to Misasa Onsen (about 1 hour).
