Todaiji Culture Center
The Tōdai-ji Cultural Center is a multi-purpose facility in Nara City (Mito-cho) that includes a library, museum, storage vaults, a temple history research institute, a Kegon studies institute, and the Konshō Kaikan (hall). It serves as a base for sharing Tōdai-ji’s teachings, history, and culture, and is designed so visitors can learn and enjoy its many facets. For access, take the city loop bus from JR Nara Station or Kintetsu Nara Station for about 5 minutes, get off at "Tōdai-ji Daibutsuden / Kasuga Taisha-mae," and walk about 5 minutes. It is also about a 20-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara Station, which can be a pleasant stroll through Nara’s atmospheric streets. The center has an attached cafe with an open terrace, where you can enjoy coffee, matcha, and Japanese sweets in a calm setting. The Tōdai-ji Museum, as a temple museum, exhibits many National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties of Buddhist art, including the Important Cultural Property Thousand-Armed Kannon statue, National Treasure statues traditionally attributed to Nikko and Gakkō Bodhisattvas, Important Cultural Property statues of Jikoku-ten and Tamon-ten, and Important Cultural Property Gigaku masks.
