Stone church
Stone Church (Uchimura Kanzo Memorial Hall) is a stone-and-glass church within Hoshino Resorts, known for its “organic architecture” that makes use of natural materials. Inspired by Kanzo Uchimura’s “Nonchurch movement” (mukyokai shiso), which taught that nature itself is the place for vows, it has no altar and no cross. Combined with the organic architecture, the space can feel as if you are immersed in nature—making it a rare structure even worldwide. Even for non-Christians, it’s a place to face oneself and make a personal vow. It is mysteriously beautiful both in daylight when sunbeams enter and at night when it is illuminated, and it is extremely popular as a wedding venue. Many people also visit alone to ease stress or worries, and it’s well loved as a solo-travel spot. Visits are not possible during weddings or bridal events, but otherwise it can be toured freely—so check the schedule in advance.
