Sagano Romantic Train
The Sagano Scenic Railway, operated by Sagano Romantic Train, is a sightseeing train that runs along the Hozu River from Torokko Saga Station to Torokko Kameoka Station. There are four stations in total: Torokko Saga, Torokko Arashiyama, Torokko Hozukyo, and Torokko Kameoka. The railway spans 7.3 km, and the journey takes about 25 minutes at an average speed of 25 km/h, allowing passengers to leisurely enjoy the scenery along the river. Each season offers unique views, including cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, autumn foliage, and winter landscapes with bare trees or snow. The train slows down at particularly scenic points. The train consists of five cars, with the fifth car being an open-air carriage without windows, allowing passengers to fully experience nature. The floor is partially open, letting in wind from below, and umbrellas cannot be used even in bad weather. Tickets go on sale one month in advance through JR and major travel agencies, but often sell out quickly during peak tourist seasons. A popular itinerary combines a one-way trip by the scenic railway from Sagano to Kameoka with a return trip via the Hozu River boat ride.
