Yamagata Nanokamachi Washington Hotel
Yamagata Nanokamachi Washington Hotel is located about 10 minutes by bus from JR Yamagata Station (get off at “Yamagata City Hall-mae”), then about a 1-minute walk. Set in the center of Yamagata’s downtown area with many restaurants nearby, it’s convenient even for late check-ins or room-only stays; there’s also a convenience store on the first floor. One popular feature is the large public bath that uses natural water which has seeped out from the Zao mountain range over a span of 200 years. The baths are separated by gender and made of hinoki (cypress). Stretch out and warm up to thoroughly relieve the day’s fatigue. The changing room has lockers with keys for security, and a cold-water server in the post-bath area is another appreciated service. Another highlight—on par with the bath in popularity—is the breakfast buffet, featuring freshly cooked Yamagata brand rice “Tsuyahime,” rice porridge, curry, milk, fruits, and well-balanced dishes designed with nutrition in mind. The local specialty imoni is also well received.
