Uradome Kaigan Beach
Uradome Coast lies within the San’in Kaigan Geopark area and was formed over vast time by the harsh, powerful waves of the Sea of Japan. A geopark is a UNESCO-backed initiative that not only protects natural heritage but also uses it for regional revitalization and education. The literary master Shimazaki Toson also visited and is said to have been overwhelmed by its beauty. Along the coast, a well-maintained promenade allows you to stroll while experiencing the remarkable transparency of the water up close. In summer, it becomes a swimming beach and attracts leisure visitors from across Japan. Access: by car, about 22 km from Tottori IC via Route 9 (about 30 minutes), or about 26 km via Prefectural Road 43 (about 40 minutes). By public transport, take the Nihon Kotsu Iwai Line from JR San’in Main Line “Tottori Station” toward “Kabushima,” get off at “Uradome Kaigan-guchi” (about 50 minutes), then walk about 700 m (10 minutes).
