Jinpuukaku
Jinpukaku is a Western-style building constructed on the former site of the residences of the Ikeda family, lords of the former Tottori Domain, and it is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The building is a two-story, white, French-Renaissance-inspired structure made of wood with a tiled roof. Within the grounds is a garden, and verandas on both the first and second floors overlook the Horoin Garden. The Horoin Garden was created to console Horoin, the widow of the 12th lord Ikeda Yoshinori, who died young. In the garden pond stands Hosho-an, a tea room, and it’s recommended to stroll not only through the Jinpukaku building but also the garden and tea room together. A popular souvenir is a clear file featuring the Jinpukaku family crest. Access: by car, about 7 km / 20 minutes from Tottori IC (Tottori Expressway). By public transport, from JR San’in Main Line “Tottori Station,” take a Hinomaru Bus bound for “Tottori Univ. Attached School,” get off at “Nishimachi,” then walk about 500 m (about 6 minutes).
