Manzamo
Manzamo is a scenic spot in Onna Village, Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture. It is famous for a rock formation that resembles an elephant’s trunk, often shown in TV dramas and Okinawa programs—many people have seen it before. The cliffs, about 20 meters high, are made of Ryukyu limestone and uplifted coral reefs, and grassy land spreads across the top. It’s so recognizable that it has become a symbol of Okinawa. There are guardrails along the walking path, providing a sense of safety compared to viewing from afar, so even some people with a fear of heights may be okay. The loop walk takes about 30 minutes at a relaxed pace. If you go at sunset, you can watch the dramatic sun setting into the Okinawan sea. In 2020, a new three-story facility opened that also functions as an observation area, with souvenir shops and food options. You can enjoy light meals while looking at the sea, and also try Okinawa-only treats like Blue Seal ice cream and sweets. Access is about 90 minutes by bus from Naha Bus Terminal.
