Tachibana Street

Tachibana-dori is Miyazaki City’s main downtown avenue, a common name for the roughly 1.8 km stretch from the intersection in front of Miyazaki City Hall to the Ebara five-way junction. In particular, the roughly 1 km section from the City Hall intersection to the Tachibana-dori 3-chome intersection is the busiest area, lined with department stores, commercial facilities, and many restaurants. Various events take place throughout the year: in early August, “Matsuri Erekoccha Miyazaki” sets up stages along Tachibana-dori for dance contests and community dancing; in late October, the Miyazaki Jingu Grand Festival (Shinmu-sama) features a procession that passes along Tachibana-dori (day 1 from the shrine to the otabisho in Ooyodo or Setogashira, alternating by year; day 2 back to the shrine); and from November through year-end, the area is decorated with illuminations using around 300,000 bulbs. It’s a must-visit area for both sightseeing and business travelers. Access: by public transportation, about a 15-minute walk (1.1 km) from JR Nichinan Line / JR Nippo Main Line “Miyazaki Station”—walk along Kita-Takachiho-dori to reach the front entrance of Miyazaki Yamakataya on Tachibana-dori. By car, about 13 minutes (approx. 6 km) from Miyazaki Expressway “Miyazaki IC” via Route 220.
