Kyoto Ramen Street
Kyoto Ramen Koji is a ramen-themed dining area on the 10th floor of the JR Kyoto Station Building. It consists of nine famous ramen shops from around Japan plus one Japanese-sweets shop, and operates 11:00–21:00 on the south side of the station’s Grand Staircase on the 10th floor. Participating ramen shops include: Kitakata “Bannai Shokudo,” Tokyo Ikebukuro “Taishoken,” Toyama “Menya Iroha,” Nagoya “Menya Hanabi,” Kyoto “Masutani,” Takatsuki “Nakamura Shoten,” Tokushima “Tōdai,” and Hakata “Ikko-sha.” “Kyoto Masutani,” whose main shop is in Kitashirakawa (Sakyo Ward), was founded in 1948 and is often associated with the origin of Kyoto’s back-fat soy-sauce style, featuring a light yet rich broth with thin straight noodles; their chuka soba (regular) is 700 yen. The sweets shop “Yakigama Sweets Chasen” offers matcha-heavy, Kyoto-flavored new-style Japanese sweets. Note that shop lineups may change over time.
