TOEI Kyoto Studio Park
Toei Kyoto Studio Park is a movie theme park located in Uzumasa, Kyoto. It opened in 1975 as Japan’s first theme park where visitors can watch period-drama filming and experience the world of jidaigeki through open sets, events, and attractions. Guests can walk through realistic open sets modeled after places such as Nihonbashi, Yoshiwara Street, the Nakamuraza kabuki theater, and a grand gate inspired by Nijo Castle. Actual filming also takes place here, and with some luck you may see famous actors up close. There are also paid attractions that require an additional fee, such as a haunted house, a 3D maze, and a trick-filled ninja house. Visitors can also rent costumes—kimono, period-drama outfits, or Sengoku warlord attire—and enjoy strolling through the park in character. Some restaurants even look like they belong on a film set. The shops offer Kyoto souvenirs as well as ninja and period-drama themed goods. The location is extremely convenient by public transportation, about a 5-minute walk from JR Uzumasa Station and also a 5-minute walk from Randen Uzumasa Koryu-ji Station.
