Kijitei Hoeiso
Kijitei Hoeiso is a hot spring inn known for serving pheasant cuisine, true to its name. Its symbolic feature is the “Annex Kijitei,” created by relocating a traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouse from Okuhida. Named by Mushakoji Saneatsu, it is a special space that can be rented as a whole building. Note that the annex does not include its own bathing facilities, so guests use the main large bath. If you want to enjoy bathing more privately in your room, choose from the other 18 rooms instead. Room sizes vary, and some include a moon-viewing terrace. Furnishings are also carefully selected, such as tatami sofas and antique wood tables. The signature pheasant meat is light and not gamey, yet rich in flavor, and is considered health-friendly due to its amino acids and protein. Typical dishes include ceramic-plate grilled pheasant, pheasant sashimi, and pheasant rice porridge made with pheasant broth—letting you experience the essence of Hoeiso, which originally began as a restaurant specializing in pheasant cuisine. Access: get off at Hakone-Yumoto Station (Odakyu Line), then take the circular bus for about 10 minutes.
