Ibusuki Shusuien
Ibusuki Shusuien is a hot spring ryokan in Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture. It is a historic ryokan, and its cuisine is a highlight—ranked No. 1 for 33 consecutive years in the “professional chefs’ selected cuisine” category—making meals something to look forward to. The inn is a traditional Japanese-style building that evokes history, and the guest rooms are clean and retain their classic atmosphere. Upon entering the stately front entrance, you’ll find an impressive garden and a retro yet luxurious lobby, and matcha with sweets is served from the tea room. Sunamushi Onsen Saraku is nearby, but Shusuien also has its own hot springs, including private baths, open-air baths, and an easy-to-enjoy footbath. After bathing, there are complimentary services such as herbal medicine and tokoroten (jelly noodles). After an extravagant dinner, soaking in the hot spring again is also recommended. A late-night snack is served as well, so you can enjoy plenty of food beyond what the price might suggest. It’s a recommended ryokan for spending a luxurious time on a Kagoshima trip, and it is popular with tourists. Access: about 5 minutes by car from Ibusuki Station. Free shuttle service is available.
