Kagoshima Chuo Station
Kagoshima-Chuo Station is a JR station in Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture. It is the city’s main station and the terminal station of the Sanyo/Kyushu Shinkansen, serving as a key transit point for both sightseeing and business. It is a departure/arrival station for travel to places like Fukuoka and Kumamoto, and also a Shinkansen gateway connecting to Honshu. Because of this, station buildings and commercial facilities cluster around it, including Amu Plaza Kagoshima and the Kagoshima Chuo Terminal Building. The station also has a souvenir and gourmet alley (‘Kagoshima Chuo Station Miyage Yokocho / Gurume Yokocho’) where you can buy Kagoshima foods and gifts. Trams and buses also start and end here, so tourists often aim for Kagoshima-Chuo Station as their hub. With abundant shopping and dining, you can easily spend hours here—useful for killing time before a Shinkansen departure. There are also a cinema and a Ferris wheel, making it a popular spot not only for visitors but also locals. Access: directly connected upon getting off at JR Kagoshima-Chuo Station; many buses and the Shinkansen also terminate here.
