KAGOSHIMA MUNICIPAL SCIENCE HALL
Kagoshima City Science Museum is a municipal science museum in Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture. It was built as a complex together with the Kagoshima City Library, so a library is also attached. It features a planetarium combining a sky-full of stars with digital imagery, as well as a dome cinema for large-format films. There are floors dedicated to astronomy and space, a science theater, and workshop/sci-lab floors with hands-on ‘science lab’ areas. There are many interactive corners that are very popular with children, such as a space simulator and a Hayabusa simulator. In the science theater, live science experiment shows are held on stage every day, which are popular with kids. It feels like a quintessential Japanese science museum—using the latest technology to teach children’s “Why?” in an entertaining way—so even adults can get absorbed. Workshops held from time to time are substantial and free, making them extremely popular; they are rare sessions that are hard to win a spot in. Access: about 500 meters from Korimoto tram stop or Kamoike tram stop.
