Pork toro ramen
Buntoro Ramen is a famous ramen shop in Kagoshima. It is described as the overwhelming No. 1 among Kagoshima ramen shops. The most popular item is the Buntoro Ramen with soft-boiled seasoned egg, featuring prized pork ‘buntoro’ topped on a tonkotsu soy-sauce soup that can be enjoyed lightly. Buntoro is a rare cut—only about 200–300g can be taken from a single pig—and they use plenty of it as chashu. While 1,000 yen per bowl may seem high, the generous buntoro topping makes it feel like a good value. The pork melts gently in your mouth and spreads rich flavor. They also allow customization such as richer/lighter, mild/strong seasoning, and softer/firm noodles so you can match your preference. There can be long lines at lunchtime, so be prepared to wait. Access: about a 3-minute walk from Takamibaba tram stop.
