Shiroyama Observatory
Shiroyama Observatory is an observation point in Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, offering panoramic views over the city. It is a popular sightseeing spot visited by many people year-round. Near the Shiroyama Nature Walk entrance (reachable by car), there are souvenir shops and more. To reach the observatory, you walk up a path surrounded by nature; the climb is only about 50 meters of elevation, so it’s an easy stop. There is also a shop called Shiroyama Chaya and benches where you can sit and enjoy the view. You can see Sakurajima clearly, instantly boosting the ‘Kagoshima feeling.’ The night view is also excellent, drawing many visitors after dark. Shiroyama was the site of the final fierce battle of the Satsuma Rebellion, so many related historical sites remain in the area. The mountain is rich in nature and is designated both a Natural Monument and a National Historic Site. Access: get off at ‘Shiroyama’ on the city sightseeing bus and walk about 3 minutes.
