Mount Azuma-Kofuji
Mount Azuma-Kofuji is a 1,707-meter peak in the Azuma Mountain Range. Its large, bowl-shaped crater gives it the appearance of a miniature Mount Fuji when viewed from Fukushima City, which is said to be the origin of its name. The mountain has long been beloved by locals. In early spring, a rabbit-shaped snow pattern appears on the mountainside, known as the famous "snow rabbit." The crater, believed to have formed during an eruption 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, measures about 500 meters in diameter and drops approximately 70 meters to the crater floor, creating a truly spectacular sight. The popular "Ohachi-meguri" trail circles the crater and takes about 40 minutes at a leisurely pace, offering breathtaking panoramic views. On clear days, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of Fukushima City from the summit. By driving up the Bandai-Azuma Skyline to Jododaira near the summit and walking the trail, the peak can be reached in about 10 minutes. The area around Jododaira features a rest house, visitor center, and the Jododaira Observatory, attracting many tourists.
