Takumi Kappoten
Takumi Kappoten is a casual shabu-shabu diner near Tottori Station. The interior is richly decorated with local folk crafts and furnishings, and even the tableware used for serving meals is mingei (folk craft), creating a distinctive atmosphere. It’s a popular spot where you can enjoy local cuisine made with abundant fresh, locally sourced ingredients—drawing many visitors from outside the prefecture as well as locals. It gets crowded right from lunch opening time, so if you have flexibility, it’s better to line up before opening. Especially popular lunch items are the “Hayashi Rice” and “Tottori Wagyu Miso-Stewed Curry,” both recommended as local favorites. Established in 1962 (Showa 37), the shop’s interior remains largely unchanged and features many pieces made by local artisans. It is located on “Mingeikan Street,” alongside spots like the “Tottori Folk Crafts Museum” and “Tottori Takumi Kogeiten,” so it’s recommended to combine a meal with browsing and shopping for Tottori folk crafts. Access: from the JR San’in Main Line “Tottori Station” North Exit, it’s about 350 meters via Taihei-dori or Sun Road—about a 5-minute walk.
