Tottori Karo Crab Aquarium

Tottori Karo Kanikko-kan is a hands-on aquarium-like facility focusing on crabs (a Karo specialty) and showcasing around 160 species of aquatic life found in Tottori’s waters. More than just viewing, it’s a place to “touch” and “experience.” In the “Touch Tank” area, you can directly handle sea creatures. In the “Tottori Fish Tank,” a fish-feeding experience is available from May to October. The “Experience Workshop Room” hosts crafts and hands-on events—worth checking. Outside, there’s a small pool where artificial waves are generated and you can enjoy walking barefoot. You can also tour the backyards, seeing care routines such as breeding, and even treatment of illnesses. Inside the exhibit hall, fun quizzes make it enjoyable for both adults and children, and seasonal “special exhibits” display rare creatures. Access: by public transport, take a Hinomaru Bus from JR San’in Main Line “Tottori Station” (bound for “Hondori”) for about 35 minutes, get off at “Karo Kaigan,” then walk about 800 m (about 9 minutes). By taxi, about 20 minutes from Tottori Station. By car, about 4 minutes from Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport, or about 20 minutes from Tottori IC (Tottori Expressway).
