MIZUKI SHIGERU ROAD
Named after the manga artist Shigeru Mizuki (creator of GeGeGe no Kitaro), “Mizuki Shigeru Road” refers to the roughly 800-meter stretch from JR Sakai Line’s Sakaiminato Station to the Mizuki Shigeru Museum. Walking the full length takes about 10 minutes. The road is lined with 177 bronze statues of familiar characters such as Kitaro, along with Yokai Shrine, streetlights shaped like Medama-oyaji, and many eateries and cafés—essentially a shopping-street-like area themed around GeGeGe no Kitaro. Created in 1993, it’s now popular not only with domestic visitors but also with international tourists. The nighttime illumination features are especially atmospheric, making it feel like you’ve wandered into Kitaro’s world. Access: by train, take the JR Sakai Line from Yonago Station to Sakaiminato Station (about 45 minutes) and step out right into the area. Each station on the line also has a nickname based on GeGeGe characters—worth checking. By car: from Yonago IC (Yonago Expressway), take Route 431 for about 40 minutes.
