Yachimun Street

Yachimun Street (Tsuboya Yachimun-dori) is a street in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture. Lined with workshops that make traditional Okinawan pottery, as well as a pottery museum, the entire street is paved with stone. Because you can glimpse traditional Okinawan daily life and the atmosphere is quiet, it’s a perfect sightseeing spot for a calm, adult stroll. You can tour old climbing kilns, and of course buy Okinawan-style ceramics—so you may feel spoiled for choice, but finding one favorite piece here can become a great travel memory. It’s not only tableware: you can also find shisa guardian lions and other items. Some cafés serve coffee in yachimun cups, so it can be a good way to check how the pottery feels in real use. Each piece carries Okinawan culture, so asking about the story behind designs and choosing based on that can be fun too. Pottery-making experiences are also available, letting you try creating your own original pot. Access is about a 7-minute walk from Yui Rail Asato Station.
