Kuju Flower Park
Kuju Flower Park is a botanical park on the Kuju Plateau in Taketa City, Oita Prefecture. Located at an elevation of 800 meters, it covers about 20 hectares and offers beautiful nature and seasonal flowers with Mount Kuju as a stunning backdrop. From spring through autumn alone, around 500 varieties and 3 million flowers bloom in abundance, creating scenery that hardly feels like Japan. Simply gazing at the endless flower fields can be deeply fulfilling. In spring, moss phlox, tulips, poppies, and nemophila bloom across the park; in summer, lavender, casablanca lilies, and sunflowers appear; and in autumn, cosmos, salvia, and marigolds color the landscape. With its expansive grounds, the park also hosts activities such as wreath-making using flowers and various events from time to time, and it is recommended to join in. Inside the park are places for light meals, restaurants, and soft-serve ice cream, so you can visit without bringing anything special. You may also encounter rare butterflies such as the Asagimadara. Access to Kuju Flower Park is about a 30-minute drive from Bungo-Taketa Station.
