Yufuin Onsen
Yufuin Onsen is a hot spring area in Yufuin, Oita Prefecture. It is designated as a National Hot Spring Health Resort. Since 1965, it has been a popular tourist destination known for annual summer film festivals and music festivals. At the foot of Mount Yufu, Yufuin Onsen offers nature-rich scenery and is an outstanding place to enjoy a nostalgic atmosphere. Thatched-roof ryokan and shops line the streets, and the landscape blends retro charm with stylish simplicity. You can soak in hot springs amid scenery reminiscent of Karuizawa. Even luxury ryokan offer day-use bathing, and when you step just off the main street, it can suddenly feel quiet enough to seem like you have entered a different world, far from the bustle, with crisp, dignified air. The street from Yufuin Station to Lake Kinrin is lined with shops and is busy every day. Lake Kinrin is famous because hot springs bubble up even in winter, and depending on the season, you can see a dreamlike lake scene. Access to Yufuin Onsen is about a 5-minute walk from Yufuin Station. As soon as you step off the train, many shops line the area, making you feel like you have arrived at a major sightseeing destination.
