Yakitori Maruman Main Store

Ganso Yakitori Maruman (Main Store) is a long-established yakitori specialty shop founded in 1954 (Showa 29). It is also known as the originator of Miyazaki’s soul food “chicken thigh grill (momo-yaki).” The moment you step inside, a fragrant, appetite-stimulating aroma fills the air. The top seller is of course the momo-yaki: chicken grilled over binchotan charcoal made from oak, resulting in fluffy, juicy meat inside and crisp, aromatic char outside—so juicy the drippings fall. The medium-rare chicken melts with savory umami. Also worth trying are the chicken soup and the limited “chicken pilaf” (10 servings per day). Access: from JR Nichinan Line / JR Nippo Line “Miyazaki Station,” about a 20-minute walk (just under 1 km). By bus, take Miyazaki Kotsu “Asahigaoka Line” or “Tandai Line,” get off at “Tachibana-dori 3-chome,” then walk about 2 minutes (110 m). If using the Kyushu Sanko bus “Nanpu-go Nonstop (Kumamoto–Miyazaki),” get off at “Department-mae (MRT-mae)” and walk about 4 minutes (260 m). By car, about 12 minutes (approx. 5.5 km) from Miyazaki Expressway “Miyazaki IC” via Route 220.
