Bouyourou Ryokan
Boyo-ro is a culinary hot-spring ryokan in Mikuni Onsen, located within the Echizen-Kaga Quasi-National Park in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture. It sits near the center of the park and is also close to Tojinbo. Founded in the Meiji era, it is a long-established inn that is kept very clean and has a dignified, high-class atmosphere. Watching the sun set into the horizon from the inn—an endless sea view—is breathtaking. The ryokan has both an open-air bath and a large bath where you can enjoy free-flowing Mikuni Onsen while looking out at the sea. Some rooms also have private open-air baths (6 out of 10 rooms). With the rough waves of the Sea of Japan right in front of you, soaking in the hot springs is sure to leave you in awe of nature. The cuisine is also a highlight, with authentic kaiseki and seafood dishes you can savor to your heart’s content. Breakfast is especially satisfying, featuring freshly cooked rice prepared in your room, handmade tofu steamed right in front of you, and other carefully chosen dishes. Access is about a 20-minute taxi ride toward Tojinbo from JR Awaraonsen Station on the Hokuriku Main Line. There is also a free shuttle service, so it’s worth asking at the time of reservation.
