Fukui Station Dinosaur Square
Fukui Station Dinosaur Square is a plaza with dinosaur monuments and related installations located in the open space in front of the west exit of Fukui Station. It was created to promote "Dinosaur Kingdom Fukui" in conjunction with the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Kanazawa. As soon as you step off the train, you’ll see three life-size dinosaurs—Fukuisaurus, Fukuiraptor, and Fukuititan—and the accurately moving monuments are impressively powerful. Fukuititan stands at about 6 meters tall. The wall of the JR Fukui Station building is also covered with dinosaur illustrations, and it is lit up at night. The area itself can be visited 24 hours, but the monuments operate from 9:00 to 21:00, moving every 30 minutes, so be sure to visit during those hours. The station building dinosaur murals are illuminated until 23:00. Near the lower part of the wall, there is also dinosaur trick art that makes it look as if a dinosaur is bursting out of the wall. Life-size dinosaur footprint fossils are also displayed, letting you place your own feet on them for comparison. To reach Fukui Station Dinosaur Square, it is a one-minute walk from Fukui Station.
