道の駅 多々羅しまなみ公園
Roadside Station Tatara Shimanami Park is a roadside station located immediately after crossing the Tatara Bridge from the Ikuchijima side to the Omishima side. A “”michi-no-eki”” (roadside station) is a highway-adjacent service facility on regular roads, providing 24-hour parking, toilets, and an information desk. The park’s tourist information center has part-time staff who can speak English, which can be reassuring for international visitors. Bicycle rentals are also available, so it can be a good base for a short ride along the Shimanami Kaido or around Omishima. The restaurant serves dishes featuring mahata (a high-end fish sometimes called a “”phantom”” luxury fish). There is also a produce market selling local vegetables and citrus, and a specialty-product center for souvenir shopping. Within the park are additional facilities such as the “”Murakami Santō Memorial Museum”” (collection of works by a contemporary calligrapher), the Tatara Campground, and the Tatara Observatory where you can enjoy views of the Tatara Bridge.
