Nyuto Onsenkyo
Nyuto Onsenkyo refers to seven hot springs scattered across the foothills of Mt. Nyuto within Towada-Hachimantai National Park. Each inn has its own spring source, and the area is known for its wide variety of waters, said to include more than ten different spring sources in total. The seven hot springs are: the hidden hot-spring inn with Edo-period roots, "Tsurunoyu"; the modern riverside inn "Taenoyu"; the therapeutic hot-spring village "Kuroyu Onsen" with bubbling source waters; the deep-mountain inn with private open-air baths in separate buildings "Ganiba Onsen"; the mountain medicinal hot spring "Magoroku Onsen"; the nostalgic wooden schoolhouse-style "Ogama Onsen"; and "Kyukamura Nyuto Onsenkyo," surrounded by beautiful beech forests. For travelers who want to visit all seven baths with different mineral qualities and benefits, two recommended options are the "Nyuto Onsenkyo Yumeguri-go" and the "Yumeguri-cho." The Yumeguri-go is a bus that loops around the seven inns, running 10 times a day. It also operates during the snowy winter season, making it a reassuring choice for those not confident driving on winter roads. The Yumeguri-cho is a great-value bath pass that allows entry to all seven baths with one booklet. It is limited to overnight guests, but since each facility’s bathing fee ranges from 520 to 800 yen, being able to enter all of them for 1,800 yen is an exceptionally good deal. It is also said that bathing your way through all seven hot springs is beneficial for many ailments.
