Tottori Port Seafood Market
Tottori Port Seafood Market Karoichi is a fresh fish market in Karo, a port town at the mouth of the Sendai River along the Sea of Japan coast. The area around the market is also a popular fishing spot, attracting anglers year-round. At Karoichi, you can buy a wide range of seasonal seafood: spring (aji, sazae), summer (white squid, oysters, tuna), autumn (mackerel, nodoguro), winter (Matsuba crab, flounder), and more. Alongside fresh seafood, you’ll also find Tottori’s “tofu chikuwa” and other local specialties. Next door, the JA-affiliated “Jibasan Plaza Wataina” sells fresh local vegetables, Tottori wagyu, Daisen’s Ruby pork, and even offers on-the-spot rice polishing for Tottori-grown Koshihikari—together functioning as a beloved local kitchen for residents. Access: from JR San’in Main Line “Tottori Station,” it’s about 6.2 km by taxi or bus. By bus, take the Hinomaru Bus Karo Line and get off at either “Kanikkokan-mae” or “Karo Kaigan” (the stop can vary by day, so ask the driver). Travel time from Tottori Station is about 35 minutes. By car, about 10 minutes from Tottori IC (Chugoku Expressway) or Tottori Nishi IC (Tottori Expressway).
