Otsuka Museum Of Art
The Otsuka Museum of Art displays over 1,000 masterpieces owned by more than 190 museums in 25 countries, reproduced on ceramic panels using special techniques—from ancient murals to modern paintings. It brings together famous works you may have seen in textbooks as well as masterpieces rarely seen in Japan, letting you experience the world’s museums without leaving the country. Most of the building is constructed inside a mountain, making it a very unusual museum. The exhibition methods are also carefully designed: (1) dynamic environmental exhibits recreating entire spaces, (2) systematic exhibits showing the evolution of Western art history from ancient times to the present, and (3) theme exhibits that let you experience differences in expression and technique. The restaurant offers lunches tied to exhibition themes and dishes using local ingredients like sea bream and wakame. Seasonal menus themed after famous works such as “The Last Supper” or “Water Lilies” are popular with visitors. The museum also offers a unique “museum wedding” experience. Access is via local bus from JR Tokushima Station, getting off at “Otsuka Museum of Art.”
