Awaodori Kaikan
Awa Odori Kaikan is a facility where you can enjoy Tokushima’s traditional performing art, Awa Odori, year-round. Its inverted-trapezoid exterior is designed to resemble a lantern. Inside is a hall that can hold 250 people, where you can not only watch performances by the venue’s resident dance troupe or famous groups, but also join in and dance together. The performances showcase Awa Odori’s rich variety by comparing old and modern styles and expressing movements and forms through natural motifs like flowers, birds, wind, and moon. On the 1st floor, you can shop for Tokushima specialties, traditional crafts, and Awa Odori goods—perfect for souvenirs. On the 3rd floor, the Awa Odori Museum explains the origins and history of Awa Odori through photos and documents, and displays costumes and instruments such as wooden fish and violins. There is also an Awa Odori VR corner, where you can virtually experience the real summer festival. After the show, you can take photos with the dancers for a memorable travel moment. Access is about a 10-minute walk from JR Tokushima Station.
