Roadside station Aso

Michi-no-Eki Aso is a roadside station on National Route 57 in Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture. It includes the “Rural Space Museum,” which hosts Aso experience events. It supports Aso sightseeing and outdoor activities such as MTB, cycling, and running, using the endless grasslands. You can join guided activities like scenic spot tours, trekking, downhill play, MTB rides, and cross-country routes. MTB rental bicycles are also available. Grassland riding is a rare experience, so it’s especially recommended. The roadside station sells vegetables, boxed meals, and souvenirs made with local products, making it fun even just to browse. It’s also known as a “roofless museum.” There are three kinds of soft-serve ice cream, enjoyable for both kids and adults. While there is no restaurant, there is an eat-in rest area used by both tourists and locals, and it’s often busy. If you want to fully enjoy Aso, Michi-no-Eki Aso is a great starting point. Access: from JR Kumamoto Station, get off at Aso Station—it's right there.
