Keikyu Aburatsubo Marine Park
Keikyu Aburatsubo Marine Park is an aquarium in Miura City, Kanagawa, with over 50 years of history. It’s rare in that you can enter with pets, and in most cases you can view exhibits and shows together with your pet; it also has facilities such as a dog run. One major highlight is “Fish Country,” which has 30 tanks and features powerful displays such as the only captive great white-tip shark (Oomejirozame) on Honshu, a 5.7m-long megamouth shark specimen, and a liquid-immersed giant squid specimen found in Yokosuka. The park also puts strong effort into penguin care and has even received the Koga Award, considered a top honor among Japanese zoos and aquariums. Penguin chicks are often born around April, so visiting around that time is recommended if you want to see them. At the “Marine Shop,” you can also buy straps made from penguin feathers. Access is easy: get off the Keikyu bus at “Keikyu Aburatsubo Marine Park” and it’s right there.
