Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse
Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouses are two warehouses located at Tsuruga Port in Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture. Redeveloped in 2015, the south building now serves as a restaurant complex, while the north building is a railway-and-port diorama museum that adds atmosphere to the port area. The diorama museum uses HO-gauge model trains, and outdoors on the adjacent northern site, a KiHa 28 series railcar that once ran on the Obama Line is on display. Built of red brick in a brick structure (English bond), the warehouses are also architecturally valuable, and they are registered as Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan. The restaurant building offers food featuring Tsuruga’s mountain and sea specialties. The open garden connecting the Kanegasaki area and the warehouses is a relaxing space and event plaza, featuring a stone stage made from Tsuruga’s Hikida stone, zelkova trees, and an English-style garden. To get to Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouses, take the Gurutto Tsuruga sightseeing bus (tourist route) from JR Tsuruga Station for about 11 minutes and get off at "Akarenga Soko"—it’s right there.
