Hotel Folkloro Kakunodate
*Renovation closure noted as January 31 to February 4, 2021 (Thu), according to the information provided.* Folkloro Kakunodate is a hotel with outstanding access, located just 30 seconds on foot from JR Kakunodate Station. The surrounding area is famous for a townscape that feels like stepping back into the Edo period, and the well-known sightseeing area of Samurai Residence Street is about a 20-minute walk from the hotel. Along the way, you can enjoy a recommended stroll full of discoveries, including shops selling the traditional craft kabazaiku (cherry-bark work) and Japanese sweets. For those who prefer not to walk, bicycle rentals (paid) are also available near the hotel, making it a great option for cycling as well. At the hotel’s on-site restaurant "Oshokujidokoro / Sabo Sakura Komachi," the cuisine focuses on seasonal local dishes. In addition to set meals, it serves Akita favorites such as Inaniwa udon, Hinai-jidori oyakodon, Ogari-bayaki, and Jindai curry. A particularly recommended dish is Jindai curry, a very popular menu item that placed 4th at the B-1 Grand Prix 2009, a festival of B-grade gourmet foods held in Yokote City, Akita Prefecture. It is an excellent dish featuring a half-and-half pairing of retro-style curry recreating flavors from the 1950s (Showa 30s) with fish sausage, alongside modern-style curry. Access: the hotel is next to JR Kakunodate Station; if traveling by air, it is about 60 minutes by the Akita Airport Liner (shared taxi).
