Ebisuya Higashiyama Kyoto

Ebisuya Kyoto Higashiyama is a rickshaw service company based in Kyoto. In addition to Kyoto’s Arashiyama and Higashiyama districts, it operates rickshaws at major tourist destinations across Japan, including Otaru, Asakusa, Kamakura, Miyajima, Kurashiki, Kanmon, and Yufuin. Ebisuya Higashiyama offers five boarding locations: Ichinen-zaka (in front of Kodaiji Temple), Yasaka Shrine South Gate, the top of Chawan-zaka, Heian Shrine, and Ginkakuji Bridge. Various courses are available, passing through stone-paved streets and historic areas such as Ichinen-zaka, Yasaka Pagoda, Yasaka Shrine, Miyagawa-cho, and Nene-no-michi, as well as the Gion geisha district where maiko and geiko are active. The Higashiyama area features many slopes and narrow alleys, and the sight of rickshaw pullers skillfully navigating these streets is impressive. Each rickshaw can accommodate up to two passengers, and riders can ask the puller for recommended hidden spots and local insights. Some pullers speak English, Chinese, or Spanish, making the service popular with international visitors. Even without a planned itinerary, riding a rickshaw provides guided sightseeing and insider information, making it a reliable companion for exploring Kyoto.
