Godaisan Park

Godaisan Park is a park covering the Godaisan area in Kochi City. The name comes from China’s Buddhist sacred site “Wutai Shan.” In the park there is a somewhat scary observation deck: from about 139 meters high, you can enjoy an almost 360-degree view, looking out over Kochi City and even Urado Bay. The night view from this deck is counted as one of the “Chugoku-Shikoku Three Great Night Views.” When visiting at night, note that there are no lights, so caution is needed. Nearby are Chikurin-ji Temple and the Makino Botanical Garden. The area is famous for cherry blossoms and azaleas, and as a walking course it is popular with both locals and tourists, offering seasonal plants all year. In autumn, cosmos bloom and the atmosphere is especially pleasant. On fireworks festival days, this observation deck becomes a hidden viewing spot and gets crowded. Access is about 15 minutes by car from Kochi Station, or get off at Godaisan Nokyo-mae and walk 25 minutes—but be aware you will be climbing stairs continuously.
