Shin-Tamagawa Onsen

Shin-Tamagawa Onsen is a sister facility of Tamagawa Onsen, which is famous for ranking No. 1 in Japan in three ways: abundant hot spring output, ultra-acidic hot spring water at pH 1.2, and natural rock-bed bathing. While Tamagawa Onsen mainly welcomes guests visiting for therapeutic rest and long-term hot-spring cures, Shin-Tamagawa Onsen is designed so that sightseeing and leisure travelers can also stay with peace of mind. For those visiting for recovery or treatment, the on-site "Tamagawa Onsen Research Society Attached Toji Consultation Room" has nurses on duty who can provide advice on therapeutic bathing. The facility emphasizes safety and accessibility, with handrails installed throughout key areas and floor steps minimized as much as possible as part of a barrier-free design, making it reassuring for older guests and families with children. Dining is buffet-style at "Shunsai Dining Buna no Shiki," with a menu focused on health and beauty that generously uses local ingredients and vegetables. More than half of the main dishes change daily, so even long stays won’t feel repetitive, and you can enjoy Akita local cuisine and seasonal specialties. A particularly recommended dish is Hinai-jidori teppanyaki: it offers a distinctive bite and rich fat flavor, and is also a high-protein, low-calorie ingredient. Access to Shin-Tamagawa Onsen is convenient even in winter, with the Airport Liner Tamagawa-go direct service from Akita Airport to the Tamagawa Onsen area, or route buses from JR Tazawako Station.
