Fuji Tempura IDATEN

Fuji Tempura Idaten is a tempura specialty restaurant where you can enjoy freshly fried tempura at counter seats. You can order items à la carte—such as shrimp, squid, seasonal vegetables, and local ingredients—and they fry each piece on the spot, making for an exceptional tempura experience. Despite being a counter-style tempura restaurant, prices are reasonable, so it’s easy to visit casually. Out of 45 total seats, most are counter seats, making it especially suitable for solo diners. The restaurant is also popular with international visitors because it offers English menus and vegetarian options. They provide children’s chairs and tableware, and there are also table seats, so families with small children can feel comfortable. The signature menu item is the “Specialty! Mt. Fuji Tendon”: inspired by Mt. Fuji’s shape, it features six large shrimp tempura “peaks,” a green pepper tempura representing the Aokigahara forest, an ikura gunkan-maki representing Mt. Fuji’s lava, and an eggplant tempura representing the crater. This impressive bowl is famous on social media and is so large that it’s recommended to share between two people. In addition to tempura, you can also enjoy steak bowls, jingisukan, kake soba, tekka-don, and the local specialty “Yoshida no Udon.” Known for its extremely firm, chewy texture that becomes more flavorful as you chew, Yoshida udon is one of the must-try dishes when visiting Fujiyoshida.
