Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nenba (Traditional Japanese Village)

Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nenba is a lakeside area in the Nenba district by Lake Saiko (one of the Fuji Five Lakes) where you can enjoy a “Japanese countryside hometown” village landscape. In 1966, severe typhoon damage wiped out the district’s once-beautiful scenery of rows of thatched-roof houses. Years later, after the area became part of Fujikawaguchiko Town through municipal merger, the original rural landscape was recreated in an effort to revive Japan’s traditional village scenery, leading to the present-day open-air village. Stepping inside feels like experiencing the peaceful old Nenba scenery. Beyond the scenery, visitors can try hands-on experiences such as soba noodle making, konnyaku making, pottery, and crafts—making it an especially good spot for families with children. Access to Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nenba: by car, about 25 minutes from Chuo Expressway “Kawaguchiko IC” via Route 139. Or from Tomei Expressway “Subashiri IC,” go via the Higashi-Fuji-Goko Road (~25 minutes) to “Fujiyoshida IC,” then take Route 139 for about 25 minutes. By train: take the JR Chuo Line limited express to “Otsuki Station,” transfer to the Fujikyu Railway limited express “Fujiyama,” and reach Kawaguchiko Station in about 40 minutes; then transfer to the retro bus for about 50 minutes. By highway bus: about 1 hour 45 minutes from Busta Shinjuku, or about 2 hours 45 minutes from Tokyo Station Yaesu South Exit to Kawaguchiko Station; then take the retro bus about 50 minutes.
