Ubuya Hot Spring Resort

Ubuya is an upscale lodging in the Fuji Kawaguchiko Onsen area that combines the best aspects of a hotel and a traditional ryokan. It has 51 guest rooms, and every room offers a view of Mt. Fuji across Lake Kawaguchi. Ubuya is especially recommended for celebrations—such as a child’s coming-of-age, parents’ kanreki (60th birthday), or a couple’s anniversary—because the inn offers thoughtfully designed experiences suited to special occasions. You can enjoy Mt. Fuji views not only from your room but also from the large public bath while soaking in the hot springs. A signature dining highlight is shabu-shabu enjoyed with Ubuya’s house-made “tsuyu dashi” broth: thinly sliced meat is dipped into the broth and eaten with plenty of condiments, making it one of the inn’s most popular dishes. Seasonal kaiseki cuisine also adds to the celebratory atmosphere. Access to Ubuya: by car, about 5 minutes from Chuo Expressway “Kawaguchiko IC” (about 3 km), or about 30 minutes from “Ichinomiya-Misaka IC” via Misaka Pass. From Tomei Expressway “Subashiri IC,” go via the Higashi-Fuji-Goko Road (~18 km / 40 min), exit at “Fujiyoshida IC,” and proceed to Lake Kawaguchi. By train: take JR Chuo Line limited express to “Otsuki Station,” transfer to the Fujikyu Railway limited express “Fujiyama,” and reach Kawaguchiko Station in about 40 minutes. By bus: about 1 hour 45 minutes from Busta Shinjuku, or about 2 hours 45 minutes from Tokyo Station Yaesu South Exit to Kawaguchiko Station. From Kawaguchiko Station, it’s about 10 minutes by taxi. If you call Ubuya upon arrival (TEL: 0555-72-1145), they can provide pickup service between 15:00 and 18:00.
