Ryokan Ohashi

Ryokan Ohashi is a classic Japanese-style onsen ryokan founded in 1932 (Showa 7), regarded as one of Misasa Onsen’s representative inns. It was opened with the conviction to create “the finest of Japanese architecture.” Today, the precious timber used in its construction can no longer be sourced, and the building has been carefully maintained, preserving its original atmosphere—so much so that it is designated as a National Tangible Cultural Property. All guest rooms overlook the Mitokugawa River, and each room is named after the materials used in it. Misasa’s hot spring water here is said to have one of the world’s highest radium contents; beyond soaking, you can also enjoy therapeutic use by inhalation and drinking. Cuisine is centered on kaiseki that values local character and seasonal feeling—beautifully presented dishes that are pleasing to the eye as well. Access: by car, about 60 minutes (50 km) from Yubara IC (Yonago Expressway) via national routes, or about 80 minutes (70 km) from Innosho IC (Chugoku Expressway) via Route 179. By public transport, it’s about 30 minutes by taxi from JR San’in Main Line “Kurayoshi Station,” and there is a free shuttle from Kurayoshi Station (reservation required by the day before). Highway buses run from Osaka to Misasa Onsen-guchi; from there it’s about 5 minutes by taxi to the ryokan.
