Hakuto Jinjya Shrine
Hakuto Shrine is, as its name suggests, a shrine deeply associated with rabbits. It is an ancient shrine referenced in classical texts such as the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, with records indicating it was rebuilt around 1596–1615. The shrine is connected to the myth of the “White Rabbit of Inaba,” and has long been revered for blessings related to skin ailments and burns. A notable sacred spot is “Mitarai Pond,” where, in the myth, the rabbit is said to have washed and healed its wounds; because the water volume remains stable year-round, it is also called an “ever-constant” pond and is considered a spiritual power spot. Since the rabbit is portrayed as a cupid-like figure in the myth, the shrine was recognized in 2010 as a “Sacred Place for Lovers.” It is believed to bring blessings not only for romantic relationships but also for all kinds of connections—work, family, and more. Access: by train/bus, take a bus from JR San’in Main Line “Tottori Station” for about 40 minutes and get off at “Hakuto Jinja-mae.” By car, exit at Tottori IC (Tottori Expressway) and drive about 20 minutes.
